Landhuis Chobolobo, located in central Curacao, once again turned into a true festival ground last Saturday. Various areas of the location were dedicated to different themes and the organization had clearly put thought in every little detail. Even a ‘Zen tent’, with aromatherapy, ‘herbal h2o’ and a special guided meditation, was created for the visitors to take a step back and relax in the midst of it all.

Below you will find a small number of highlights of the evening. Only a few, because the evening was packed with interesting topics and insights from experts from all kinds of industries.

  • The evening started with a panel about women in tech. All panel members, Pauline Alfonso, Somaica Louisa, Erica Obersi and Romy Nieuwenhuis, agreed on one thing specifically: the number of women in the tech industry will for sure continue to rise!
  • All visitors were given the chance to test the new crypto coin, kGuilder, and the Kolektivo Wallet for the first time. A couple of companies that were present at the festival even accepted the kGuilder as a currency.
  • Patrick Rawson, of Curve Labs, explained how agriculture is being tokenized and what this means on a global level. Soon Future Islands will publish the recently announced next part of the mini-series about Kolektivo, in which this topic is further described.
  • During a panel about what is needed to create a grassroots community, Stacy McDonald, who recently received a doctoral degree after researching nature conservation in the Caribbean part of the Dutch Kingdom, stated that we all need to lead instead of following and that we must “empower instead of destruct” each other.
  • Femi Meaux has urged us all to preserve as much food as possible. She presented pickling foods as a great solution to prevent food waste and if possible, to use left-overs as animal food to aid circularity.
  • In the digital artwork gallery (NFT-gallery) that was created, Churandy Martina has presented his own collection for the first time, the ChuraNFT. This collection of digital artwork consists of 200 unique NFT’s. Despite being a digital asset, NFT’s can serve a community well. The income that the creators earn by selling, can then be invested and spend in the community.
  • Success and happiness coach Darryl Romijn has given tips on how to thrive in everything you do. “Learn to fail gracefully, fail forward”, was one of them. He also asked the simple, but effective question, what can you do to be happy? What concrete action can you take right now?
  • Oz Eleonora, currently residing in the US, showed the great potential that Curacao has to thrive in the upcoming digital (financial) market, created in Web3. Curacao has global reach, secure infrastructure, a great track record and compliant jurisdiction. When it comes to proper education, or specifically the lack there of, Eleonora shared “We have access to the internet and we can educate ourselves”.
  • The night ended with music from artist and music producer Joshua Martina (Tera Kòrá), who earlier in the evening also joined the panel about creating grassroots communities and spoke about the influence of Curacao in the global music scene.

Many more experts took the stage and shared their stories and expertise on creation, development and regeneration. After gaining this much inspiration on this first edition of Kolektivo Festival, we are certainly hoping there will be a next edition soon. In the meantime, together we continue the development of the future of the Caribbean islands of the Dutch Kingdom.
