More and more companies are embracing and actively joining the shift towards a more sustainable Curacao! Whether it concerns small companies or larger ones, with the long road ahead, it is good to see how all sorts of companies are deliberating and taking action wherever they can right now.
Collect 50 plastic bottles and receive a voucher of 50 NAf.
Van den Tweel is an example of a company that has already been working on shifting focus from throwing away plastic to recycling the material by making it possible for Green Force to open a recycling center on their premises. The recycling center opened its doors in 2013 and is a place where different types of plastics still can be thrown away, sorted by their color. Green Force then takes over to process what is collected. But now Van den Tweel is also trying to create awareness by incorporating this theme into one of their campaigns. They offer a voucher of 50 NAf. in-store credit for the first 100 people to hand in 50 plastic bottles on September 17.
As we can read on their Facebook page, their campaign consists of 3 easy steps, of which the first is to collect 50 plastic bottles. The bottles have to be either type 1 (PET) or type 2 (HDPE) plastic, which are currently one of the few types of plastic that can be processed on the island itself. The second step is to hand them in on the date and time stated above at Van den Tweel Zeelandia and the third step is to receive the credit. Visit their Facebook page for details of the campaign.
Whether you are a regular shopper at Van den Tweel or you prefer another grocery store when you are in Curacao, campaigns like these make it more attractive for the community to actively join the movement towards sustainability in any form. In the hospitality sector on the island, we have also been seeing trends with a clear focus on sustainability. As the performance numbers continue to increase, according to the publications by CASHA (Curaçao Apartments & Small Hotels Association) and CHATA (Curacao Hospitality And Tourism Association), in combination with the impact of the hospitality industry on the island, this (the food service sector) is an important sector to actively show their commitment.
