When all the six commercial airports in the Caribbean Netherlands formalized the Dutch Caribbean Cooperation of Airports (DCCA) in April of last year, one of the main points on the agenda of the brand-new project was the creation of sustainable, stable, and affordable air connections between the Dutch Caribbean islands. The organization of the first Sustainable Air Transportation Event in Aruba in November of this year aligns with that pledge.

The Sustainable Air Transportation Event in Aruba

On behalf of the DCCA, the Aruba Airport Authority will take organize the first edition of what hopefully will be many more Sustainable Air Transportation Events in November. For one week, they will get the visitors and participants acquainted with the challenges and possibilities of alternative air transportation options. From company representatives and partners in aviation to education institutions and people who are simply interested in the topic, everyone will be encouraged to think about the present and the future of sustainable aviation, with a particular focus on the unique Dutch Caribbean region.

One of the main attractions of the first SAT Event in Aruba will be the electric aircraft that will be making test flights from Aruba International Airport. The plane will be provided by the Nederlands Lucht- en Ruimtevaartcentrum (Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre) in collaboration with the DCCA. The idea is to provide local students and companies to experience the aircraft in real life, and for them to better understand the potential of electric aviation in the Dutch Caribbean. Besides that, the week-long SAT Event will feature plenty of seminars and workshops about a whole range of topics, from business challenges and opportunities for local airports and airlines to global developments worldwide in the field of sustainable aviation.

About the Dutch Caribbean Cooperation of Airports

The Dutch Caribbean Cooperation of Airports is based on a formal cooperation agreement that was signed by the Managing Directors of all six commercial airports of the Dutch Caribbean (Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Sint Eustatius, and Sint Maarten). The goal of this agreement is to contribute to the improvement of each airport in the region and, as a result, the quality of overall air transport. The six cooperating entities exchange information and share expertise on a selection of key elements, including sustainable and affordable air connections between the islands, innovation in local aviation, and connection and infrastructure maintenance. Besides that, the ambition of the DCCA is to make the Caribbean Netherlands a global frontrunner in the field of electric aviation.
