As a new and fast-growing platform focused on sustainability through innovation in the Caribbean Netherlands, at Future Islands we are always delighted to see new ideas and projects popping up on the islands, especially when initiated by local entrepreneurs and visionaries. The upcoming Kolektivo Festival fits this description exactly as the first-ever international innovation festival held on the island of Curaçao and organized by Curaçaoan community organization Kolektivo. It will be taking place at the historic Landhuis Chobolobo in Willemstad, one of the oldest manors on the island that is accessible to the public and home to the famous Senior brewery, on October 22nd, 2022.
Focus on technology and social impact
The purpose of the Kolektivo Festival next month is to bring together entrepreneurs, farmers, students, tech experts and lawmakers from both the local communities and international regions in a fitting setting where they can exchange ideas and opinions in the areas of technology, entrepreneurship, and social impact. On top of that, the event has also confirmed no less than fourteen local and international speakers who will go over a range of related topics, including regenerative finance, community development and creativity.
The Landhuis Chobolobo itself will be divided into two main areas, each with a very different purpose. One area will be transformed into an immersive NFT art gallery, completely in line with the NFT trend that has exploded over the past few years, while the other will serve as a so-called zen space. In this last area, there will be places for local vendors, drink stands and food stations to offer their products to visitors to reinforce the local character of the festival.
What is Kolektivo?
Kolektivo describes itself as a community organization with a focus on redesigning the foundation on which local economies and communities are built, in the case of the Kolektivo Festival, Curaçao. The organization aims at creating economic systems that are driven by wellbeing rather than pure profits. In practice, this revolves around the monetization of social impact and the creation of a regenerative economy based on innovation, adaptation and balance, always driven by the communities themselves.
